How Does Medifast Work?

17 January 2011 No Comment

medifast-workMedifast is a weight loss program developed and sold by Jason Pharmaceuticals of Maryland. The idea behind the Medifast diet is bringing the body into a state of ketosis, a metabolic state when the liver excessively converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies that can be used by the body for energy, through careful calorie and carbohydrate control. Medifast claims that it is fast, safe, simple and satisfying, and has a supportive community of users.

Fast
Medifast states that its program works faster than similar products on the market. This is largely due to having substantially fewer calories in their prepackaged meals than other products. Medifast limits calorie intake to between 800-1000 per day. Depending on the body type and genetics of the user, as well as his exercise habits, those on the Medifast diet may lose from two to four pounds per week–twice as much as similar diets advertise.

Safety
Since its inception by Dr. William Vitale, M.D in 1980, the Medifast program has been seen as safe enough to be prescribed by at least 15,000 doctors to their obese patients (Source: Medifast1 website). Strict medical guidelines were used in the development of Medifast to insure that calorie loss is still within safe limits, while providing the highest possible weight loss results.

Simplicity
With most diets, life becomes filled with counting calories or carbohydrates. Medifast does all the counting for you. The meals on the Medifast program come pre-packaged with a carefully measured amount of calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates, to insure that you are getting the nutrition you need while still losing pounds and inches off your body.

Satisfying
Though your calorie intake is substantially lower on the Medifast diet, meals are carefully infused with high-fiber, high-satiation ingredients that leave you feeling fuller longer. The program also allows six meals per day. Spreading the calories out over a greater period of time allows the body to really never be completely empty of fuel, letting you feel full longer.

Support
One of the benefits of Medifast is the substantial online support community that is provided with the program. This free of charge resource allows the Medifast diet user to keep track of his weight loss, chat with other users on the program and talk with Medifast personal trainers and doctors.
